Collarbones - Kill Off The Vowels (Loopsnake’s Slow Mix)
So I’ve done a really quiet remix for Collarbones, an experimental pop project that my friend Marcus Whale (Scissor Lock) works on with his Adeladiean friend Travis Cool (Cyst Impaled, Super Nintendo Chalmers). It has been released on the free single, along with a remix by Cleptocletics and a b-side, Late Nights.
The original is a charming piece of glitch-pop and Cleptoclectics has done a remarkable remix with his trademark cut-up wizardry.
As a remixer, I don’t feel a particular need to stamp my trademark on a remix. Sometimes I transform things entirely, and sometimes I don’t. This was evident in my recent edit of Faux Pas’ tune Silver Line, which is in places fairly similar to the original. In that case I simply adapted the tune to serve a different purpose.
I’ve left even less of a stamp on this remix. I was very taken with the vocal line of Kill Off The Vowels, both the lyrics and the lilting, melting harmonies. As a result my remix came out as an almost-acapella version of the tune with my favourite lilts and melts repeated and delayed underneath, with some scattershot woodblocks and incidental wandering synths. Listening to it now, I feel lazy. I hardly had a part in creating this loveliness. Instead of making an archetypically ‘Loopsnake’ track, I made something that I wanted to listen to. I hope you like listening to it too.
