Karoshi - Downside/Upshot
Downside/Upshot - Karoshi by karoshisydney
This new tune by Sydney’s Karoshi is a heavyweight slice of future bass, in a not-dub dub style that could sit along side Night Slugs artists like Girl Unit while carrying that optimistic darkness that underpins golden-era IDM. It’s also got that european chill, like an Apparat or Pantha Du Prince track, making it an ideal end-of-night...

Liquid Electric on FBi 94.5: Erothug - We Should... →
liquidelectric:
You can pile genre names on this all you want, but at it’s core it’s a very clever pop tune. Erothug’s style reminds me of Friendly Fires and Jimmy Edgar, and he sings and produces entirely non-ironic r’n’b styled electronic pop in an Australian way, like Oscar ‘n’ Martin and Collarbones.
I think…

Liquid Electric on FBi 94.5: Eloq - Why Don't You? →
liquidelectric:
We all pretty much know that ‘aquacrunk’ means essentially nothing, but now that I’ve said it you’ve got an idea of what this tune is going to sound like. The debut EP ‘Galactic Neckbreaks’ from Dutch (?) producer Eloq reminds me of producers like Rustie and Slugabed with his bright colours, his…

“There are people.
There are stories.
The people think they shape the stories, but the reverse is often closer to the truth.
Stories shape the world. They exist independently of people, and in places quite devoid of man, there may yet be mythologies.”

Lanie Lane
Alright, so it’s the MoR remix that I’m playing on the radio, but the original cut of this is free, and is a tasty slice of jazzy bluesy poppy stuff. Check it the hell out.
Lanie Lane and MoR are also working together on a project called Idea Idea, and she’s done a few vocals on tracks of his in the past. More information as it comes to hand.

Best of 2009 Mixtapes
So late pon the upload, but I live in the woods, and my internet connection is rubbish. It actually took 9 months to get this online.
These are my favourite tracks of 2009, mashed into 120 minutes with Ableton Live.

Free Stuff
I’m playing so many free local acts on the radio tonight. Like;
Coke Bugs by Electric Sea Spider Coke Bugs by ELECTRIC SEA SPIDER
Really nice, clever and functional future crunk stuff, feels like he chills with the oneofour and headroom crews.
Temora by The Townhouses The Townhouses - Temora by The Townhouses
Quiet electric niceness from a guy who, from what I’ve heard,...

New Brian Eno
also, there’s a new Brian Eno track out on the interweb. I’ve got it, but I’m not spreading it around because I want Warp to keep hooking me up. Other people aren’t as concerned about Warp’s wrath, so they might have posted it. Find it! Love it!

Commix - Be True (Burial Remix)
This isn’t really new, but it’s only just come out for cats that like to pay for music.

DAVID FOSTER WALLACE, in his own words
crookedindifference:
The world of letters has lost a giant.
This is the comencement address he gave to the graduates of Kenyon College in 2005. It captures his electric mind, and also his humility—the way he elevated and made meaningful, beautiful, many of the lonely thoughts that rattle around in our heads. The way he put better thoughts in our heads, too. (Many thanks...

Collarbones - Beaman Park
I mentioned my friends Collarbones once before, when they put out an EP that I provided a remix for. But then they went and put this EP out. It’s a pretty incredibly wonky thing that’s been well reviewed by more capable wordsmiths than myself, so I’ll leave you with just a link. My pick is Tashkent - download it freely!

aKido - Gamechanger
I was put onto this band by Bon Chat Bon Rat’s gentleman manager, which may well give you a vibe of what to expect. There are sections that remind me of a naive PVT, or a gentler 65DaysOfStatic. More than anything else it shows promise; while this album may not be a gamechanger in itself, it’s not ridiculous to say that a future aKido album may well be. It’s entirely free to...

PVT - Window Remixes
PVT - Window Remixes (Church With No Magic out now) by Warp Records
Austrian synth wizard Dorian Concept and holy-shit-an-Australian-got-signed-to-Stones-Throw Danimals remix PVT, and you download it for free. Joyyy. Dorian Concept works with his wide chords and broad colours to make the tune even more cosmic than it already was, and Danimals uses his usual pots-and-pans wonky beats with...

This is one of those amazing things that I slept on waiting for the vinyl, but I got bored of that and hypem’ed it. Click the link to Electric Adolescence’s blog of them. Enjoy them both!

Kid Fiction - Ruby Slippers
I only posted a Kid Fiction track two days ago, but he’s just uploaded this superdynamite jam to soundcloud that I’m keen to share. It’s a nice bright 140bpm beat which reminds me of Hudson Mohawke and Joker in equal measure, without actually sounding that much like either, but with a warm and typically Sydney vibe that I haven’t heard since...
Kid Fiction - Particle/Pluto
more next-level glitchy local niceness for FREE
Mr Vengeance - Trøpical
I am pretty next-level tired at the moment so I’ll come back and write a pretentious bloggy breakdown of this in the near future, but right now just accept that it’s local, free glitchy joy.
Kidkanevil - Minjo (Blue Daisy Remix)
I’ve played this a couple of times, but I didn’t have a blog back then, so I’m blogging it now. Blue Daisy’s first 10” on Black Acre was both physically lovely and a very, very fine pair of tracks to listen to. Kidkanevil’s ‘Back Off Man, I’m A Scientist’ LP was a very excellent group of instrumental...

Oxynucid and Mrs Jynx - Symbiotix EP →
Conveniently crossing over with Mrs Jynx’s new Shark Carousel LP on Planet Mu (and available only from Planet Mu’s website) is this EP that she and Oxynucid made together. I’ve played Mazzjutant and Knitting Sleep on the show so far, which are available both on Shark Carousel and this EP which is extremely free and rather good.
I’m pretty impressed by this Oxynucid...

Karoshi and friends live at The Gate →
The Gate is a fascinating ‘venue’ concept, which is effectively a backyard in Ryde. Liquid Electric favourites Karoshi are playing there, launching the split 7” with Ah! Pandita that I played on air tonight. Also are Alps and Guineafowl, who I’ve seen host trivia but never play music. It’s a $10 donation, and it’s entry by rsvp/guestlist only. Saturday night!!

Paul Heslin - Rubbernecker EP →
Free stuff from local Paul Heslin, working in a very nice post-concrete kind of space. Apparently recorded entirely from vocal and found apartment sounds given his separation from real instruments. It reminds me in principle of Leafcutter John’s ‘The Housebound Spirit’ but in sound more like a punk-ethic, slightly evil version of Baths.

Collarbones - Kill Off The Vowels (Loopsnake's...
So I’ve done a really quiet remix for Collarbones, an experimental pop project that my friend Marcus Whale (Scissor Lock) works on with his Adeladiean friend Travis Cool (Cyst Impaled, Super Nintendo Chalmers). It has been released on the free single, along with a remix by Cleptocletics and a b-side, Late Nights.
The original is a charming piece of glitch-pop and Cleptoclectics has done a...
